The Role of Public Relations in Combating Misinformation

Join PRSA Idaho for a timely and not to miss panel discussion on combating misinformation as communication professionals!

Wednesday, Aug. 30 Lunch & Program
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Location: Cottonwood Grille/Alcove Room

Misinformation is a rising issue that threatens to destroy trust, obstruct communication, and gravely disrupt our democracy, economy, and communities. Information that purposely misinforms or confuses the public contaminates the information superhighway and prevents people from making well-informed decisions. Managing incorrect information is nothing new, but with digital media, it may now travel more quickly than ever, with potentially disastrous results.

As communication professionals, we must be prepared to deal with misinformation. That’s why PRSA Idaho is hosting a special luncheon panel, featuring professionals with first-hand experience in responding to misinformation and creating trustworthy communications.

Panelists will include:

• Andrea Dearden, Public Information Officer for the Ada County Sheriff’s Office

• Janelle Smith, Strategic Communications Team Lead for Recreation.gov

• Mary DeWalt, Director of Ada Community Library

Lunch is included with registration and you may order from Cottonwood's standard lunch menu upon arrival.
